A beautiful Town House in Trafalgar Square suffered from restricted light due to its traditional room configuration. The property was initially designed with windows at the front and rear of the property, causing a lack of natural light.
The home owner wanted to achieve open plan living on each floor and commissioned an architect to design a bespoke staircase and skylight that spans all five floors of the property. The key challenge for the architect was to fill the property with natural light, whilst adhering to strict building regulations. The regulations specifically state that any open central staircase married with open plan living, is a primary fire risk.
Conversations were held between the Building Regulators and the Architect over the lack of space available in the property for a traditional fire sprinkler system to be installed. As such, the Architect engaged with IPH Mist Suppression to deliver a discreet, high pressure water mist solution to satisfy the building regulations and protect the property from any potential fire risk.
IPH Mist were tasked with designing, installing and maintaining a high pressure water mist system to allow the open plan living space that the owner and architect had designed.
After a quick consultation and review of the proposed plans, the team at IPH Mist Suppression offered a free quote and site survey. The proposed water mist system, including the system design, layout drawings and quotations were submitted to Building Regs by the Architect and were accepted within five working days.
The specialist installation team at IPH Mist Suppression completed the retrofit project within 3 days, allowing the other trades on-site to commence their work and finish the renovation on time and within budget.
The fire suppression system is maintained every year by IPH Mist as part of an annual service and maintenance package. This ensures the system will perform as intended in the event of a fire.
